Haden & Hanaway Travel to Kosovo

DID YOU KNOW?

Independence FFA Advisor Michael Haden and Sophomore FFA member Avery Hanaway will be traveling to Kosovo as part of the Hawkeye Community College International program.

Five high school agricultural programs (1 teacher and 1 FFA member from each program) were selected from the State of Iowa by Hawkeye Community College, based on a two minute videos produced by the student and teacher.  View the video produced by Mr. Haden and Avery.

They will travel with the 4 other ag programs from Iowa including Oelwein, Union, Pleasantville, and Waukee. Brad Kinsinger, Hawkeye Community College Agricultural Professor will be traveling with the group and has worked very closely with the Minister of Agriculture in Kosovo, Nenad Rikalo while organizing this opportunity.

For a portion of the trip, they will be paired up with a high school to learn what is taught in their classrooms and lend any advice or knowledge they can give to the students in Kosovo. That same high school will send their instructor and one student to Iowa this spring to visit Independence high school in the middle of April 2019 and also attend our State FFA Convention.

Mr. Haden had this to say about the upcoming trip, “I am in my 9th year of teaching, and this is a tremendous opportunity for Avery and I to learn about agriculture in Kosovo and bring that knowledge back to Iowa and share it. I am excited to show Kosovars that travel to Iowa in April what agriculture is all about in Iowa and how they can intertwine agriculture into their curriculum at their high schools in Kosovo.”

Dates of the trip: Departing Cedar Rapids on Saturday September 22nd and returning Sunday September 30th.
