School Improvement Communciations
Independence Community School District is committed to continually improve the educational process for all students and staff.
The district has a rigorous professional development plan for staff. Keeping up with research based instructional practices is important and takes time to learn and implement. It requires frequent and focused sessions over time for staff to be able to learn and implement new practices. For this reason, the district utilizes early dismissals twice a month to provide opportunities for staff to learn and discuss implementation of research based practices.
During the 2014-15 school year, the focuses of professional development are technology and educational research as it pertains to reading and math. Teachers are learning how to make better use of technology in their classrooms to enhance learning. They are also taking a close look at district data to determine how we can better meet students’ needs.
The district publishes each year a “Report to the Community” which highlights important events of the school year. Student achievement scores are also shared.
