All Iowa School Districts are to notify parents annually many notices. Below are the notices currently available from The Independence Community School District. They are also available in hard copy at the district office.
The Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) of 1986 requires that the District notify parents annually concerning asbestos-containing building materials in the school building that their child attends, and that the management plan for that building is available for their review.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act affords parents and students over 18 years of age certain rights with respect to access and confidentiality of student educational records.
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act provides that a school may disclose appropriately designated “directory information” without written consent.

NCLB Military Recruitment List “Opt Out” Form
Section 9528 of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 requires schools to release family’s private information to military recruiters unless we “opt out” in writing. The following form provides the option to remove your child’s and/or family’s name from the Military Recruitment List.
No Child Left Behind: Teacher Qualifications
Parent/Guardians in the Independence Community School District have the right to learn about the following regarding their child’s teacher’s qualifications: state licensure status, special endorsements for grade level/subject area taught, and baccalaureate/graduate certification/degree. Parents/Guardians may request this information from the Central Administration Office by calling (319) 319-334-7400 or sending a letter of request to the Central Administration Office, 1207 1st Street West, Independence, IA 50644.
ICSD Fund-raising Request
Due to the numerous fund-raising endeavors being undertaken by different group as well as groups outside of the school but still affiliated with the Independence Community School District, we are requesting you or your organization fill out this form. In addition, all fund raising requests must have approval by the Independence Board of Education. Please be mindful of when board meetings are in relation to when a fund-raising opportunity is to begin.
