The Independence Community School District Board of Education plays an active role in the education process. The Board continually investigates proactive ways to prepare students for their life after they leave our district. There are five people on the Independence Board of Education.

Graduated from Independence Community School District (Class of 1993).  Resided in Eagan, MN for five years while practicing law with Best & Flanagan, LLP in Minneapolis.  Returned to Independence in 2005.  Married with three children.  I enjoy hunting, fishing and attending sporting events.   Volunteer coach for baseball and football. Previously served as the Board President from September 2011 – September 2016.

Background:

My husband, Russ, and I moved our family to Independence from Wisconsin in 2008 for Russ’ employment. Our four children attend ICSD and are very involved in activities. I am a former high school science teacher who has taught in Iowa and Wisconsin, served as sponsor for school activities, and helped develop Biology and Materials Science teaching materials at UNI and UW-Madison. I enjoy volunteering in our schools and community, gardening, reading, and hiking with my family.

I graduated from Independence High School in 1993 and attended the University of Northern Iowa. After graduating from UNI, my husband Cole and I moved to Minneapolis where I worked in a large public accounting firm. We returned to Independence in 2001. Our two daughters attend and are very active in the ICSD. I enjoying biking and participating in triathlons.
